On July 17th 2016, the Farm Credit System celebrated its 100 year anniversary. The Farm Credit System supports rural communities and agriculture with reliable, consistent credit and financial services, today and tomorrow. 1st Farm Credit Services is a proud member of the nationwide system. To capstone the 100 year anniversary, the 1st Farm Credit Services Board of Directors has decided to make a $100,000 gift to groups making a difference in their communities. The Rushville-Industry High School FFA was one of nearly 118 selected to receive a donation from the $100,000 gift. Your local 1st Farm Credit Services team members selected this organization because of its dedication to the future of Illinois Agriculture and rural communities. Giving back to the communities that have made the past 100 years possible for us was an important part of our celebration. We believe that every investment we can make into the future is critical to our current and future generation of clients. Helping our communities thrive helps to make sure the next 100 years are possible for Farm Credit. Two Rushville-Industry FFA members, Madison Love and Katie France, attended the State FFA Leadership Camp from July 26-29 in Monticello, IL. During camp, the students were immediately separated and mixed into groups with other FFA members from across the state. FFA members participated and competed with their group in a variety of activities throughout the week such as; ag olympics, a giant water balloon fight, capture the flag, and even water polo with a greased watermelon! The overall goal of this year's camp was to instill personalized leadership traits in FFA members and enhance team building skills
On June 26 through July 3 Marissa Lung of the Rushville-Industry FFA Chapter attend Washington Leadership Conference. During the 7 day trip Marissa and 87 Illinois FFA members were a part of the 340 students from across the country that had the opportunity to tour the U.S. Capital and other historical sites. During the conference members packaged 60,000 meals for the D.C. Area and developed Living to Serve plans to benefit their communities. They also learned how to "become effective leaders by learning their purpose, how to value people, how to take action and how to serve others." Now each member can follow the WLC theme of 2016. "To do what we can, with what we have, where we are." From June 14th-16th Rushville-Industry FFA attended the Illinois State FFA convention in Springfield Il. 10 RIHS students attended. 1 previous student, Keely Acheson, received her American Degree. 4 current students and FFA members received their State FFA degree; Brad Carey, Lindsey McNeely, Chloe France, Marissa Lung. This is the highest award an FFA member can receive in the state of Illinois. In addition, RIHS student-Madison Love played in the State FFA band. There were approximately 5,000 FFA members, advisors, and guests in attendance. The students were able to listen to keynote speakers, such as Mark Hood-a past FFA member who competed on the TV show The Voice.
The RIHS FFA finished off a very fun and successful year with a meeting, cookout, and fishing contest at Schuy-Rush Lake. On Tuesday, May 17th, 20 members along with guests and parents attended the meeting. The fishing contest categories were: Smallest Fish (won by Addie Peterman), Largest Fish (won by Brennan Hibbs), and Most Fish Caught (won by Dalton Allsup). On Monday, May 16th 4 students attended the Section 11 Banquet in Liberty, Illinois. At the Banquet 4 RIHS FFA members were recognized for receiving their State Degree. Additionally, the Rushville-Industry FFA chapter was awarded the Gold Chapter Award. FFA member, Marissa Lung, ran for a Section 11 Office and was elected as the 2016-2017 Section 11 Treasurer. Marissa will work with Section officers from surrounding schools to continue the success of Section 11. Congratulations Marissa! We are proud of you! Thanks to Megan S. and her Chihuahua puppy, the Agriculture Science class was able to practice some newly gained veterinary science skills in class. The students practiced taking vitals, observing mobility, documenting behavior, and recording heart rates. Following the activity, the students practiced writing as a veterinary technician. Students chose from various types of patient record styles such as current health status, patient assessment, and technician evaluation. On May 6th, 35 Rushville-Industry FFA Members came out to the square to share their agricultural knowledge with kids from the community. The weather was perfect and the turn out was great! FFA members were responsible for providing soda and popcorn to kids, helping kids up and down tractors, guiding kids through a chore run, and bringing their livestock for a petting zoo. This year our petting zoo included a mule, a horse, sheep, pigs, goats, a rabbit, ducks, chickens, and even fish! The students were able to share their livestock experiences with the kids and promote agriculture for a day. On Wednesday, April 20th the Rushville-Industry FFA Test Plot was planted. The plot is located on the Sullivan farm off of Route 67. All agriculture classes visited the plot during planting to discuss seed depth, population, and new technologies in agriculture. All seed was donated by local seed companies. The Agriculture Business class was in charge of calling and obtaining seed from donors with guidance from Dalton Shepherd and Mark Sullivan. The 77th Annual FFA Banquet was held on Saturday, April 16th in the High School Gymnasium. Approximately 200 guests came out to support the FFA chapter. The banquet consisted of a dinner, guest speaker Trent Barkley, Creed Speaker Katie Acheson, awards ceremony, and silent & live auction. Some of the awards given were: Discovery Degree, Greenhand Degree, Chapter Degree, State Degree, Chapter Scholarship, Senior Awards, Honorary Chapter Member, Foundation Recognition, and Special Awards. |
