The Rushville-Industry FFA celebrated National FFA week from February 22-26 with various activities. Dress up days were established for the whole week. Each day a winner was selected and given a small prize. Monday: Mr. McClelland Day, Tuesday: Farmer/Country Day, Wednesday: Tractor/Truck Brand Day, Thursday: Camo Day, Friday: Chapter T Shirt Day. In addition to the dress up days, an assembly was held on Friday which included the Kiss a Pig Fundraiser. Many teachers volunteered to participate. The teacher with the most money in their "pig" jar by the end of the week had to kiss a pig in front of the audience. On Thursday, the chapter hosted the Dean Sears Breakfast which was open to the public. Students were also able to drive their tractors to school on Friday.

On February 19-20, 3 students attended the 212 Conference in Springfield, Illinois. At the conference the students learned many leadership skills and team building strategies. They were also able to network with other FFA members across the state. One student said, "It was a really good learning experience. I leaned a whole lot there. I also met a whole bunch of friends". The conference included team building workshops, leadership sessions, and a dance.
The agriculture mechanization class constructed miniature bike fenders to learn about metal shaping. Bob Foster, who uses his metal shaping skills to restore and customize cars, came in to share his tools and knowledge with the class. The students learned the difference between metal shaping and forming as well as how to properly use an English wheel, planishing hammer, and a shrinker/stretcher. The students created compound curves from flat sheet metal through understanding the concepts of shaping metal and foreseeing the results of shrinking and stretching metal. Overall, the students were able to successfully apply their skills from class. On Saturday, Feb 8th, our FFA chapter went to the WIU Ag Mech show and handed out programs at the door and also helped with the free hourly raffle. We had four officers, Chloe France, Marissa Lung, Madison Love, and Katie France as well as two members, Brad Carey and Quentin Thompson volunteer to help. This was a great way to get our chapter out in the public and be recognized. -Author: Chloe France |
