The Agriculture Business class was visited by COUNTRY Financial Representative, Ciara Isley, to discuss the various types of insurance available. The students have recently covered an insurance unit as a part of the Dave Ramsey Financial Literacy Curriculum. This opportunity allowed the students to have insurance policies explained by a local expert. Ciara explained Auto, Homeowners, Renters, Farmowners, Commercial, Life, and Health Insurance to the students through scenarios and sharing experiences from her career. This experience was intended to provide students with the knowledge to successfully navigate the world of insurance after high school. Thanks Ciara!

On March 30th, 9 RIHS FFA members attended Agriculture Legislative Day at the State Capitol in Springfield, IL. There, they met with legislators and thanked them for their commitment to our communities and for their continued support of agriculture education. After some opposition, the Agriculture Education Line Item was approved to continue providing Illinois agricultural education the resources it needs to thrive. Some of the current programs funded by the Ag Ed Line Item are: Incentive Funding Grant Applications, Growing Agriculture Science Teachers Grants, Facilitating Coordination in Agriculture Education, Curriculum and Instructional Resources, Teacher Professional Development, Agriculture Literacy County Coalition Grants, and Improving Agricultural Education Programs Mini-Grants. Please contact your local legislator to express your support of continued ag ed funding for the 2018 Fiscal Year Budget.
