On September 20th, approximately 26 kids competed in the Section 11 Forestry and Horse Judging Contests. The day began with the Forestry contest hosted at WIU's Horn Field Lodge. There, students were able to practice timber cruising, compass reading, tree identification, and map reading. From there students traveled to Diamond D Ranch in Colchester, IL to judge 6 classes of horses. The students looked for muscling, structure, conformation, and judged them on their performances throughout the ring. Out of the 11 RIHS competitors, Dylan Miller placed first. Congratulations Dylan and all RIHS FFA members for your efforts in training for these contests!

On September 15th, approximately 50 people came out to the RIHS FFA Test Plot to check out the different seed varieties, enjoy a warm meal, and converse with others in the field of agriculture. Attendees also participated in a "Guess the Yield" contest. The person with the closest guess will be contacted after harvest to redeem their $50 prize! Thank you to all of our generous seed donors and the Sullivans for sharing their land and this opportunity with the FFA!
6 members attended the WIU Ag Football Game on September 10th, 2016. The students were recognized for their participation in FFA by walking out on the football field during half-time. On July 17th 2016, the Farm Credit System celebrated its 100 year anniversary. The Farm Credit System supports rural communities and agriculture with reliable, consistent credit and financial services, today and tomorrow. 1st Farm Credit Services is a proud member of the nationwide system. To capstone the 100 year anniversary, the 1st Farm Credit Services Board of Directors has decided to make a $100,000 gift to groups making a difference in their communities. The Rushville-Industry High School FFA was one of nearly 118 selected to receive a donation from the $100,000 gift. Your local 1st Farm Credit Services team members selected this organization because of its dedication to the future of Illinois Agriculture and rural communities. Giving back to the communities that have made the past 100 years possible for us was an important part of our celebration. We believe that every investment we can make into the future is critical to our current and future generation of clients. Helping our communities thrive helps to make sure the next 100 years are possible for Farm Credit.
