On September 20th, approximately 26 kids competed in the Section 11 Forestry and Horse Judging Contests. The day began with the Forestry contest hosted at WIU's Horn Field Lodge. There, students were able to practice timber cruising, compass reading, tree identification, and map reading. From there students traveled to Diamond D Ranch in Colchester, IL to judge 6 classes of horses. The students looked for muscling, structure, conformation, and judged them on their performances throughout the ring. Out of the 11 RIHS competitors, Dylan Miller placed first. Congratulations Dylan and all RIHS FFA members for your efforts in training for these contests!
